Why do we celebrate Waitangi day?

Why do we celebrate Waitangi day?

Do you guys celebrate Waitangi day? Why do we celebrate Waitangi day? We celebrate Waitangi day because it was the day that the Maori chiefs and the Pakeha signed the treaty to share the land. Signing the treaty also meant that the Maori and the English would have the same rules and laws.

The treaty was signed on the February 6th 1840. It was signed at Waitangi in a treaty house. William Hobson was the person that signed the treaty and James Busby.

There was 400 Maoris and 300 Pakeha that signed the treaty. We also have a day off when it’s Waitangi day.
